How to Braze Copper or Copper Alloy Pipes

1. Clean pipe surfaces thoroughly to remove all dirt and oil.
2. Apply an even coat of flux to the entire area to be brazed to prevent oxidation and ensure a clean join.
3. Light the torch using an external igniter.
4. Heat the pipe evenly, holding the nozzle 4–7 cm from the surface and moving the flame continuously until the area begins to glow red (approximately 30 seconds per mm of thickness).
5. When the pipe glows cherry red, press the brazing rod against the joint surface and apply heat until the rod melts and coats the area smoothly.
6. Allow the joint to cool, then clean with a wire brush or wire wool to remove any residual flux or oxide.

• Confirm the pipe is copper or copper alloy before starting.
• Splits or cracks larger than 0.1 mm may be difficult to repair — assess damage first.
• Always clean and dry the surface thoroughly before brazing.
