How to Braze Copper or Copper Alloy Pipes
- Clean pipe surfaces thoroughly to remove dirt and oil.
- Apply an even coat of flux to the entire area to be brazed — this prevents oxide build-up and ensures a clean joint.
- Light the torch using an external ignition source.
- Heat the pipe evenly until the surface begins to redden (approximately 30 seconds per mm of thickness). Hold the nozzle 4–7 cm from the pipe and move the flame across the full area.
- When the pipe glows cherry red, press a brazing rod against the heated surface and continue applying heat until the rod melts and coats the joint. Keep heat even for a smooth, solid bond.
- After brazing, allow to cool, then clean the area with wire wool or a brush to remove any remaining flux or oxide.
Tips for Great Brazing Results
- Confirm that the pipe is copper or copper alloy compatible with your brazing rod before starting.
- Gaps or cracks larger than 0.1 mm will be difficult to fill — repair or replace the pipe first.
- Always thoroughly clean and dry the surface before brazing.
- Use enough flux to fully coat the entire work area.
- Do not begin applying the brazing rod until the target area glows cherry red.
Phosphor Copper Brazing Rod Compatibility
This torch is designed for use with phosphor copper brazing rods, suitable for general brazing on copper and copper alloy surfaces. Brazing rod not included — sold separately.
